sometimes crafts fail

It seems logical that if i treat making this as experiments, that some don't quite work. failure is a result and i definitely learn a ton each time I have a project that... well I wouldn't exactly put out to show. One of these is a clutch I decided to make a few days before a wedding.  Between the aggressive time frame, a new tutorial and my modifications... well I learned:

  • Always have enough time for a second attempt
  • If it is last minute, keep it simple
  • If you aren't happy with the machine embroidery, then putting it together with other components aint gonna make it prettier
  • simple logic does not happen when you are rushing and over tired

The tutorial was great, and I might use it again to do something similar, and apply more logic, time and versions.

Here is how it came out (try not to judge me too harshly ;-) )

Doctor who and 3D Printing

Our awesome library has a new 3D printer. I was able to attend a class/demo and was able to request a few things... so yeah... tardis was my entire list when I heard about 3D printing... so keychain and a solid tardis is awesome! I LOVE our library. Eventually it will be open to the public and I want to take full advantage.. dinosaurs are next on my list... oh wait... maybe I need a dalek

It amazes me how much you can blend handmade and technology. To have design ideas that can be implemented in plastic, yarn, fabric or anything you can think of.

whale (felt embroidery)

My library has a neat monthly adult craft's night. This craft was from a few months ago, but I finally finished it this morning. I deviated from the design and used only one whale. There were very clear instructions provided and all the pieces of felt were cut out fore the session. It was neat, you got a hoop, blue felt square and a bag with thread, needle and felt pieces. This is going to be hung up in a play area we have at home. I think it's a good spot for my embroidery hoop experiments.

Hippos everywhere (and a lesson in yarn and gauge)

This is one of my favorite patterns. The purple one is arguably my favorite amigurumi project. The orange one I just finished for someone else. I love to see the difference in hook size and yarn type when using the same pattern. the Orange hippo is made out of red heart soft and purple is sock yarn.
