Finished Object: Ghost

my littlest one (2.5) became obsessed with ghosts this Halloween. She would point them out on shirts and say the word "ghost" and then make a boo kind of sound. It was amazing. I found some Halloween window clings and she would carry the ghost one everywhere. Even in the car!  I decided to use the window cling as a guide and make her a ghost! She loved it and carries him lots of places! I just wished I used a washable fabric instead of fleece. Basic Instructions are between the two photos

How did I make it?

  1. Drew a ghost outline on white fleece using a pencil (tried to make it similar to the window cling since she liked that one so much)
  2. Cut out both pieces of fleece using the pencil as a general guide.
  3. Put a pencil mark where I though the eyes should be (approximately)
  4. With sharp scissors, made a small hole for the eyes
  5. Attached two small safety eyes using the holes i just made
  6. Sewed the two pieces about 90% together (right sides out) with white embroidery thread.
  7. Stuffed ghost thinly with poly fill. I wanted to make ghost thick enough so she couldn't feel the safety eyes. (Tip: Use a chop stick (or similar) to move the stuff around and get into the little arms)
  8. Sew up the remaining part and tie off
  9. Hand to 2.5 year old

FO: Pink Octopus needle book

I have this amazing crafty friend that I made this pink octopus needle book for. She embroiders beautifully and hopefully this will be helpful. I had some issues though so it didn't come out as I had imagined. Mainly it was smaller then intended. I thought I was careful with the measurements but something went wonky. I think the finished product is nice but I think bigger would have been more useful. A tip, if you do this project, then printing the pattern on freezer paper and ironing onto felt is a life saver!

whale (felt embroidery)

My library has a neat monthly adult craft's night. This craft was from a few months ago, but I finally finished it this morning. I deviated from the design and used only one whale. There were very clear instructions provided and all the pieces of felt were cut out fore the session. It was neat, you got a hoop, blue felt square and a bag with thread, needle and felt pieces. This is going to be hung up in a play area we have at home. I think it's a good spot for my embroidery hoop experiments.

Embroidery project: imitation is the sincerest form of flattery right?

A while back, I had an idea to take one of my sister's amazing images and transform it into embroidery. It was a neat experience because translating digital pen strokes with thread was difficult and resulted in lots of picking things out and trying again.

The photo below is my work (framed) and some of the work in progress shots.
